Our review of Resources for International
Business Development on the web is divided into three categories. The first is
International Biotech References on the Web (outside the US), the second is general
international references for developing your business internationally (e.g. references for
developing distribution in foreign countries) and the third is US
government resources on the web, which is covered in another article in this issue.
Biotech Sites for Business (Other than
U.S.)
While there are biotech companies in most major
countries which have web sites and numerous "technical" reference webs, (DNA and
protein sequence databases, etc.), there are very few large reference sites which have a
strong emphasis on Biotech Business outside of the United States. A summary of some

Infobiotech
Canada - (IBC) is a partnership of government, private and academic sectors with the
goal of providing enhanced access to information on Biotechnology in Canada and
worldwide. Their web has a nifty search by region of the globe, click on
"Global Resources" once you get to their site. Unfortunately, their web uses
frames, and once you select a site from a country or region, the new web page appears
within the frame of the IBC Page. To see the page of interest outside of an IBC
frame, type the reference to the page directly into your browser so you can view it full
screen. Or, if you are in Internet Explorer you can point to the link, right click
and select "open in New Window".
For your viewing convenience we've added direct
links to the most useful pages "out from under" the Frames so you can view them
full screen: Custom Search;
Search by Geography. If
you want to navigate the whole site go back to: Infobiotech Canada. Most webmasters
will create a program that prevents viewers from unlinking their pages from frames, so
don't be surprised if you check these links in the future and they no longer work!

General Web Resouces
Looking to export? Here's one of the
best general resources on the web for international trade: I-Trade.  Free services include an exhaustive Export Guide that acts as a step-by-step
tutorial for international trading, an outstanding list of links to free services and info on the web about
exportation and web links for some 120 affiliated Trade Points in more than 100
countries. Fee based: research and analysis from the Economist, Intelligence Unit, Dun
& Bradstreet and Price Waterhouse. This is a must visit site.
