Book of the month: "Built to
Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies" -- James C. Collins, Jerry I.
Porras.
Although this text is a few years old, it is an outstanding classic that has tremendous
use for executives who wish to build an organization that has a sustained (and
outstanding) presence in the market place. Collins and Porras spent six years
researching some of the most impressive organizations of our time, (e.g. HP, 3M, JNJ) and
compiled a summary of the factors that have lead to their longevity in the market.
Their own ideas about what it takes to be successful, and that of many others in industry
were radically shifted by the results of their study. This text provides interesting
insights into two giants in our industry: Merck and J&J.
