Biotech, like so many other
industries, is a world of constant changes and adjustments in the working life of
marketeers and business development professionals. We're responsible for bringing in
more revenues and increasing profits despite fluctuations in value in local and
international markets, extreme budget fluctuations, mergers and acquisitions, and layoffs.
The demands are high both professionally and personally, and every now and then it's
worthwhile to evaluate what we are doing and why. As we gear up those
"new" New Year's resolutions for 1999, we thought it would be valuable to take a
look at a number of topics related to personal and professional development. We're
sure most of you are happy in your current position, but if you'd like to look at some new
options, this month's issue contains an overview of resources for career
development on the Web.
If you're pondering how you are going to deliver all your New Year's resolutions, you
might want to check out our article on suggestions for how to make
New Year's resolutions a reality in 1999.
Our third article reviews the management of growth and change (e.g. restructuring,
layoffs, mergers and acquisitions) as it impacts individuals within organizations.
Our belief is that if change is not managed well there are many negative
implications for our ability to deliver new and innovative products to market.
We provide a few of our perspectives on
managing change and improving the working life of individuals in corporations with the
ultimate goal enhancing the bottom line in the future.
Finally, as we think about our future well beyond our life as "marketeers",
it's a good idea to take a look at our finances and our financial goals. With
pension funds becoming a thing of the past, we're all becoming the champions of our
retirement funds. We've put together a list of the best
sites for investments on the web (including a few for Biotech!) to support your
effort.
